How is smoking bad for the baby?

There are some very serious complications that come from smoking while pregnant:

  • Stillbirth (when the fetus dies after 20 weeks of pregnancy).
  • Early delivery.
  • Low birth weight.
  • Baby’s lungs may not work on their own.
  • Risk of asthma later in life.
  • Higher risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
  • Heart defects.
  • Brain function (may cause learning problems and low IQ).

It is never too late to quit. Talk to your doctor about how to quit now.
