With chronic kidney disease (CKD), it is really important to follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. Some of the things you can do to stay as healthy as possible include:
Taking all the medicines you are supposed to take at the right times every day. You may need medicine for your blood pressure and diabetes, for instance.
If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar regularly.
Be careful about your diet and follow all the advice you are given on what to eat and not to eat. Remember, some foods that are healthy for other people are NOT HEALTHY for people with kidney disease.
Do not take any medicines called “non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs” or NSAIDs. These may be called ibuprofen (brand name: Advil®, Motrin®) or naproxen (brand name: Aleve®).
Make sure your doctor always knows about all medicines you take, including supplements and vitamins.
