How are drugs bad for your baby?
- Using drugs while pregnant can be bad for the fetus. This includes both legal and street drugs.
- Cocaine and meth use make the risk of miscarriage higher. There is also a higher risk of the baby having brain damage or other birth defects.
- Smoking pot while pregnant can lead to learning delays in the child. It may also cause the baby to go through withdrawal symptoms after being born.
- Aspirin and ibuprofen should not be taken during the last three months of pregnancy.
- When taking over the counter meds, always read the label to see if they are safe for pregnant women. If you are not sure, ask your provider.
- Alcohol and cigarettes are also bad for your baby, leading to heart problems and low birth weights.
- Make sure you review all your prescription and non-prescription drugs as well as vitamins and supplements with your provider to make sure they are safe for your baby.
